RosePhotosEtc.  « Looks like a nice and lazy day today, LOL!! »

It is well known that we generally order from Amazon.com because they almost always send a cat bed along with whatever it is we order. And the cat beds they send are very often the perfect size for us. Lovely.

Naboo and Bollo » from the We Are the Cat photo pool

catnipmusic's description at flickr (if there is one) » Our gorgeous new kittens, Naboo and Bollo, curling up together on the sofa. Naboo is the ginger one and Bollo is his tabby sister.

We collected them on Sunday, they are about 8 weeks old.

If you're wondering where the names come from, they are characters from our fave TV show The Mighty Boosh

Sorry, couldn't resist a bit of kitten nepotism, so of course we've posted them on our blog at the kitten channel!

randi rivers's description at flickr (if there is one) » this cat loves to play in the toilet water..... he's a strange one.

i bet if i tried a little bit, i could teach him to go in the pot like the rest of the family :)

anyone ever taught a cat to use the toilet?

Terry says » We are here for the water, that is all. If you would install a regular river in the house, we would not have to bend so low into this dish for a drink.

My Cat Kills House Sparrows. Should I Let Her?

I just realized that I've been preventing my cat from killing the most abundant songbirds in North America:
Fact Sheet: House Sparrow Control: House Sparrows are the most abundant songbirds in North America and the most widely distributed birds on the planet. House Sparrows are not actually sparrows, but are Old World Weaver Finches, a family of birds noted for their ingenious nest-building abilities.
They are everywhere in the neighborhood, and have nested in the space below both of our air conditioners. And Swiper is very good at hunting them down, swatting them right out of the air at times.

I have always had mixed feelings about cats hunting, and always try to provide my cat with a bell. (I've never had an indoor cat... I know, I should be shut away... but I prefer the near-feral cat, the one that loves its home and its people, but who really is just barely a housecat.) In any case, house sparrows are actually a problem for many of the naturally occurring species of bird throughout the U.S. (especially bluebirds, it seems). So am I doing the local bird population any favor by preventing Swiper from killing them? I have never seen her attack any other kind of bird (though she sometimes will attack a very large dog, just for fun).

What about you? Do you let your cat kill birds? If so, what kind? And what else does your cat kill?

Protest in China Closes Cat Meat Restaurant

Ugh.
Protest in China closes cat meat restaurant - Slashfood: In the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, a group of approximately 40 demonstrators gathered to protest the sale of cat meat at the Fangji Cat Meatball restaurant.
It's hard to believe that such a thing exists, I know, and easy to judge the people who might eat cat meat. But please also remember that there are plenty of people even here who would consider eating cattle, lamb, pork, etc. Don't get me wrong. I consider eating cats barbaric too. But if we begin a discussion without compassion, we hardly have a discussion. We have a shouting match. And that doesn't help anybody.

Gatinhos para adopção » from the Adoptable Pets photo pool

Estes gatinhos estão para adopção no Montijo, Portugal

São bebes e muito meigos, como se pode ver na foto.

Se tem estas condições e quer adoptar um destes peludinhos lindos, fale com a Assunção

Arashi » from the Adoptable Pets Photo Pool

Tino's First Portrait » from the We Are the Cat photo pool

(Day 1) - Tino is quite an adventurous fella. Explored the house a whole lot faster than Latte used to. Here, he was playing with the carpet while I tried to get some work done. Not easy to stay away, as you can see. :-)

Tino's pedigree name came about on Day 2. He will be registered as Ishmael Valentino Nevoso. :D

Why have you interrupted us? We were just about to take apart this carpet into little tiny bits of useful fluff. Of course, we might be distracted just long enough if you say there is a gazelle somewhere in the house.

Is there? Somewhere?

Cat Pile! » from the We Are the Cat photo pool

Five cats on my bed and poor little Axle is buried alive under all of them! LOL

We are not impressed by blankets. True warmth comes from piling together. So long as we don't quite recognize one another as being piled upon one another, we are warm, and filled with sensations and dreams that remind us of kittenhood. If milk.

We are not pleased by the presense of the door. Remove it. Or else.

Cats Compete for Homes in Surreality TV Show

I think we can start calling them surreality shows now, can't we?
Cats to compete in reality TV show in New York - Yahoo! News: Ten cats in search of owners will spend the next 10 days in a New York store window, their every move caught on camera for a reality TV show on which they will compete for best sleeper and mouse-catcher. The show is the creation of a petfood company and will be shown on cable channel Animal Planet, as well as on the Web site MeowMixHouse.com where viewers will be asked to vote off one feline contestant each day.
Of course, if you really want to help cats, you could donate some time to the local shelter, or spay a local feral cat, or give money to shelters in need. Or even adopt a cat of your own. That darn shelter is just overrun with kits, I'll bet. Go get 'em.

Bubby and macmini » from the We Are the Cat photo pool

The Bubby always sleeps in front of whichever was the last computer I was using ... he is always demanding attention :-)

We adore some of these corners, these places that do not seems as if they are fit for sleeping, precisely because of how contrarily they seem, and how lovely we make them. Don't you think we are lovely? Of course you do.

I haven't post photos of "my" FeLV kitties, but today I'm posting this photo of Pelé to show you the wonderful cat he is! Lokk at those eyes, and that pose! :) Sometimes he even lets us pet him whitout runnig :) We are making emprovements ;)

Nana and the fat bird » from the We Are the Cat photo pool

My husband took this one. Nana is the only one of our cats that watches TV. Perhaps Mojo and Win are too intellectual(big joke!)

We sometimes see birds caged here, behind glass. There must be an opening somewhere, so they can breathe. But we have not yet found it. And the laps have not shown us where it is. We will find it ourselves. Eventually.

Cat Herding Video

I'm not sure EDS gets the message they want across in this ad, but I do not care, because if you remove the “advertising” element from it, you've got yourself just a darn good western-style old-school cat herding video. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.

Jack the Cat Trees New Jersey Bear

Okay, I heard about it, and you probably heard about it too (because the wire story hit every paper in the nation). The cat who trees the bear in New Jersey. Jack:
treed bearCat 1, Bear 0 In New Jersey, Feline Confronts Bruin In Suburban Backyard, And The Bear Backs Off - CBS News
Most of the stories I've seen on this say exactly the same thing. All of them talking about the cat. And yeah, I could add to that cacophony, but it seems to me there is just as much of a story in this bear. I mean, what sort of bear... even a berry-eating suburban black bear like the one treed by Jack... actually gets treed by a tabby cat. I mean, does this bear have no sense of size and danger?

I'm guessing this bear could be treed by an unhappy blackberry bramble.

No question, Jack is tough (and perhaps not particularly bright). But that bear could use a lesson or two on working up at least enough bluster to save itself an embarrassing photo in every newspaper in the U.S.

Dragonfly Fun

It does not happen often - but here you see, all 4 cats within hissing distance. A dragonfly came into the house and disturbed the pease. Everyone ran from wall to wall and up the stairs trying their hardest to get the bug. In this pic it was hovering around the hallyway light ;-) And they were waiting impatiently for it to come to them.
